DALLAS COUNTY, Texas — Dallas County confirmed its first measles case of the year Tuesday and warned that an infected resident visited three North Texas locations while contagious, potentially exposing unvaccinated people.
Dallas County Health and Human Services said the measles virus spreads through the air and can remain infectious for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area.
Officials identified these potential exposure locations:
- Turrentine Jackson Morrow Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen — Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Gloria’s Restaurant, 152 Fountain Circle, Fairview — Aug. 14 from 12:30 to 5 p.m.
- The Revel Patio Grill, 9305 Preston Road, Frisco — Aug. 15 from 7:45 p.m. to midnight.
People who were unvaccinated and visited any of the locations during the specified times may have been exposed, county officials said.
Dallas County Health and Human Services Director Dr. Philip Huang urged residents to check their vaccination records and ensure they and their families are up to date on the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.
People who may have been exposed should monitor for symptoms including high fever, runny nose, watery eyes, cough and a rash that typically begins on the face and spreads down the body.
Anyone who develops symptoms should call a health care provider before arriving at a medical facility so staff can take steps to prevent exposing other patients. Officials also advise potentially infected people to avoid public transportation and ride-share services.
Infants, pregnant people without measles immunity and people with weakened immune systems face a higher risk of serious complications from the virus.
