Russia warns Britain over reported use of UK-made drones in Ukraine strikes

Hundreds of drones targeted Moscow on August 16, 2026 as Russia launched missile strikes that killed three people and wounded more than a dozen in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, officials on the two sides said. Ukraine has increasingly targeted warehouses linked to the Wildberries online retailer, arguing its strikes are a response to Moscow's bombardment of Ukrainian towns and infrastructure. LONDON — Russia warned Britain Monday that it would face consequences over reports that UK-made drones supplied to Ukraine had been used in strikes against military and industrial targets inside Russian territory.

Russia’s embassy in London issued the warning after The Sunday Times reported that drones manufactured by two British companies had been used in attacks deep inside Russia.

The embassy accused Britain of becoming an “accomplice and co-perpetrator” in the strikes and deliberately escalating the conflict.

“The deeper its involvement in the conflict and the greater its support for Kiev’s terrorist machinery, the higher the price it will pay,” the embassy said.

The Sunday Times reported that one of the companies involved is a subsidiary of defense contractor BAE Systems. It did not identify the second company, citing security concerns.

Britain’s Defense Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The United Kingdom has remained one of Ukraine’s strongest supporters since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. Britain has committed about £25 billion ($33 billion) in support, including £16 billion in military assistance.

Ukraine has increased long-range drone strikes against targets inside Russia in recent months, while Russia has continued missile and drone attacks against Ukraine, including Kyiv.

The latest warning adds to tensions between Moscow and London over Britain’s military and political support for Ukraine.
