WASHINGTON — U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance welcomed their fourth child, a son named Alec Neel Vance, on Sunday, the vice president announced on social media.
Vance said Usha Vance and the baby were “happy and healthy” and that their three older children were excited to meet their younger brother.
“We are deeply thankful for all they have done for our family,” Vance said, thanking the military doctors and staff at Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit for their care.
Alec is the couple’s third son. Their older children are Ewan, 9, Vivek, 6, and their only daughter, Mirabel, 4.
According to the White House Historical Association, the birth marks the first time in more than 150 years that a sitting U.S. vice president has welcomed a child while in office. The last recorded instance was in 1870, when Vice President Schuyler Colfax and his wife, Ellen Wade Colfax, had a son during the administration of President Ulysses S. Grant.
