A 28-year-old Houston-area man, David T. Brown, was arrested and charged with tampering with governmental records after allegedly selling counterfeit Texas accessible parking placards online.
According to Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen, Brown is accused of advertising fake permanent disability placards on social media and charging about $150 to illegally insert buyers’ driver’s license details into blank permits.
In Texas, legitimate disability parking placards are issued free through county tax offices for qualified applicants. Because of that, what Brown allegedly did isn’t just administrative fraud—it can rise to a second-degree felony. If convicted, it carries potential penalties of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
He is currently being held on a $75,000 bond in Harris County Jail.
