Ken and Angela Paxton divorce trial canceled before planned hearing

McKINNEY, Texas — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and state Sen. Angela Paxton have canceled their scheduled divorce trial, according to court records, as the couple continues negotiations toward a possible settlement nearly a year after filing for divorce.

The trial in Collin County had been scheduled to begin on June 24. Court records now show that a judge canceled the trial, although the records do not specify the reason.

Angela Paxton announced in July 2025 that she had filed for divorce after nearly 40 years of marriage. In a statement posted on social media at the time, she cited “recent discoveries” and said she sought a divorce “on biblical grounds.”

Ken Paxton later acknowledged the filing and requested privacy for the family.

The court initially sealed the divorce proceedings. In December, however, the couple agreed to unseal the records after several media organizations challenged the sealing order. The court kept certain personal information redacted.

In a statement released Tuesday, attorneys Laura Roach and Jared Julian, who represent Ken Paxton, said the parties have made progress toward resolving the case without a trial.

“The parties have made substantial progress toward an amicable resolution of all issues and remain engaged in productive discussions,” the attorneys said. “We are optimistic that a final agreement will be reached in the near future.”

Representatives for Angela Paxton did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The development comes as Ken Paxton campaigns for the U.S. Senate. He won the Republican primary runoff last month, defeating incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, and is scheduled to face Democratic nominee James Talarico in the November general election.
