GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas — A man previously charged in connection with the decades-old Texas Killing Fields murders investigation is now facing additional felony charges after authorities searched his Bacliff property, court records show.

James Elmore, 61, was charged Thursday with possession of child pornography and possession of visual material depicting sexual assault, according to Galveston County court documents.

Elmore had earlier been arrested in March on charges of manslaughter and tampering with evidence tied to two cases associated with the Texas Killing Fields, a series of unsolved killings involving roughly 30 women whose bodies were discovered in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The area known as the Killing Fields is located near Calder Road and Ervin Street in League City, between Houston and Galveston.

According to an April 16 search warrant, authorities alleged that Elmore’s phone — seized following his earlier indictment — contained multiple images of child sexual abuse material.

Investigators also executed warrants to examine computers and digital storage devices at his home for potential evidence related to exploitation offenses and to identify possible victims.

A separate warrant authorized a search of the property for possible human remains. Authorities said the search concluded earlier this week and no remains were found.

Elmore remains in custody on bonds totaling $4.5 million. A trial date has been scheduled for Aug. 31.
