SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Zoo will unveil a new mural titled “Texas Waters” on Monday inside its Friedrich Aquarium, highlighting regional water ecosystems and conservation themes, zoo officials said.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for April 27 at 11:30 a.m.
The mural was created by wildlife artist Patrick Ching and depicts the movement of water through underground aquifers, rivers and oceans, illustrating ecological connections across environments.
Zoo officials said the project was supported by donor Susan Naylor. Students from the Will Smith Zoo School contributed painted coral elements as part of the installation.
The coral features are connected to the zoo’s planned Brewer Ocean Conservation Lab, which is expected to open in summer 2026 next to the aquarium. The lab will focus on coral conservation, restoration, research and education.
Zoo officials said the mural is part of broader educational and conservation programming at the facility.
