Manila, Philippines — Candon City launched preparations for its hosting of the 2026 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup during the official draw held Friday at the Diamond Hotel in Manila.
Officials conducted the draw to determine pool placements for the tournament scheduled from June 6 to 14 at the Candon City Arena.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio addressed national team officials during the event and called on the Philippine women’s volleyball team to deliver strong performances in international competition.
Gregorio said the PSC expects the national team to demonstrate commitment and performance as the country prepares for future international volleyball events, including the 2029 Women’s Volleyball World Championship hosting.
The Philippine national team, competing as Alas Pilipinas Women, was placed in Pool A alongside Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Australia, and Uzbekistan.
Pool B includes defending champion Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Iran, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Lebanon.
AVC president Ramon “Tats” Suzara and AVC treasurer Marina Tsui attended the draw, along with Candon City Mayor Eric Singson and Philippine National Volleyball Federation officials led by president Tonyboy Liao and treasurer Ricky Palou.
Candon City officials said they are prepared to host participating teams and welcome delegations for the tournament.
