MANILA, Philippines — Kevin Quiambao won the Rookie of the Year award in the Korean Basketball League after the 2025–2026 season, leading the Goyang Sono Skygunners to their first playoff appearance.
Quiambao, a former MVP in the UAAP, averaged 15.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, along with 1.1 steals and 0.4 blocks during the season.
He recorded a 42.3 percent field goal percentage, 31.0 percent from three-point range, and 88.7 percent from the free throw line.
The Skygunners finished tied for fifth in the 10-team league with a 28–26 record, improving from a 19–35 record the previous season.
Quiambao, who also won Finals MVP honors in UAAP Season 86 Finals with the La Salle Green Archers, secured the award over other Asian imports and Korean players.
He became the third consecutive Filipino to win the league’s Rookie of the Year award, following RJ Abarrientos of the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus and JD Cagulangan of the Suwon KT Sonicboom.
Another Filipino player, Carl Tamayo, earned a Mythical Five selection last season with the Changwon LG Sakers.
Quiambao recently played for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers against Australia national basketball team and New Zealand national basketball team.
Meanwhile, Ethan Alvano of the Wonju DB Promy earned a Mythical Five selection after winning the league MVP award in 2024.
