MANILA, Philippines — Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his girlfriend, singer-influencer Chloe San Jose, said they do not need their families’ blessing to get married as they opened up about their relationship.
The couple made the remarks during a guest appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, where they revealed they have been living together since 2023 and are already discussing marriage.
Asked about the importance of family approval, both answered “no,” with Yulo explaining that what matters most is their mutual understanding. San Jose added that involving too many people could complicate things, emphasizing that they value having a “safe space” in their relationship.
Yulo also shared that he had planned to buy an engagement ring but did not push through after San Jose discovered the reservation through an email notification.
Their relationship drew public attention in 2024 after Yulo’s mother, Angelica Yulo, accused San Jose of creating a rift between the gymnast and his family. Yulo remains estranged from his parents but continues to maintain a relationship with his siblings.
San Jose, meanwhile, is said to be on good terms with her family based in Australia.
