Chuck Norris, the legendary martial arts champion, action star, and pop culture icon behind “Walker, Texas Ranger,” has passed away at 86.

A statement from his family on Instagram and Facebook shared that Norris died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, following a sudden medical emergency in Hawaii. “He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved,” the post read, noting his lasting impact on millions worldwide.

Norris first gained fame as Bruce Lee’s opponent in the 1972 film The Way of the Dragon, later starring in action films like Missing in Action, Delta Force, and Lone Wolf McQuade. His television fame skyrocketed with Walker, Texas Ranger (1993–2001), where he portrayed the stoic Texas Ranger Cordell Walker, earning a nomination for a TV Guide Award in 1999.

Born Carlos Ray Norris in Ryan, Oklahoma, he trained in martial arts while serving in the U.S. Air Force in Korea, eventually founding his own style, the Chuck Norris System™, based on Tang Soo Do. Among his students were Steve McQueen, Priscilla Presley, Bob Barker, and the Osmonds. Norris credited martial arts with strengthening people mentally, psychologically, and emotionally.

Beyond his screen career, Norris became an Internet phenomenon with the “Chuck Norris facts” meme, celebrated for his exaggerated toughness. He also founded the award-winning Kickstart Kids program in 1990, which uses karate to teach character development to students, a program praised for reducing crime and positively shaping youth.

Norris’ influence spanned film, television, martial arts, and popular culture, leaving a legacy that blends toughness, discipline, and inspiration.
