COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M University Office of the Commandant has announced new safety protocols for the Cadet Corps, citing concerns over domestic and international security threats amid Operation Epic Fury.

In a letter to cadets, Commandant James W. Bierman outlined steps designed to enhance safety across Corps activities:

Armed officer overwatch: The University Police Department (UPD) will provide armed officers during all Corps formations and select activities.

Increased patrols: UPD will boost patrols around Corps buildings and facilities, including TRIGON.

Active shooter briefing: All cadets will attend a mandatory session at Duncan Dining Hall on March 17, covering emergency contacts, critical reporting features, and basic safety procedures.

Heightened awareness: Cadets are encouraged to remain alert for suspicious behavior, unauthorized access attempts, or unusual packages.

Bierman emphasized that the Operations Team and UPD are coordinating closely with local and federal law enforcement to ensure the safety of the Corps.

“These measures are designed to keep our cadets safe while maintaining the integrity of our training and daily operations,” Bierman wrote.

The new protocols come as universities nationwide continue to evaluate security practices in light of evolving threats, highlighting the importance of preparedness and vigilance in campus communities.
