AUSTIN, Texas — Eight kittens were rescued Monday night after being found in a cage during subfreezing temperatures in Central Austin, authorities said.
The Austin Police Department (APD) said officers responded to a 911 call after the kittens were discovered along Great Northern Boulevard, near the northbound MoPac Expressway between Northland Drive and West Anderson Lane.
A sergeant on the scene found the kittens “freezing in a cage along a sidewalk with no shelter, food, or water,” the APD said. The animals were transported to the Austin Animal Center, where they were cared for and protected from the extreme cold.
APD reminded the public that it is “never ok to leave animals outside in freezing weather with no shelter, food, or water, especially babies.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the APD Animal Cruelty Unit at 512-974-6907.
