MANILA, Philippines – Actor John Prats shared how he transitioned from acting to directing at ABS-CBN, describing the shift as a “God-given purpose” in his career.
Prats told reporters at a press conference for an upcoming project that he initially reacted with offense when ABS-CBN executive Lauren Dyogi offered him a directing role in 2016 or 2017, during talks to renew his contract. At the time, he said, he thought the network no longer wanted him on screen.
“I wondered why they wanted me to direct. I felt they only wanted to keep me employed behind the camera,” Prats said.
He eventually reconsidered the offer, viewing it as an opportunity for growth. He credits the transition to what he calls the Lord’s plan for his life and now regards directing as a blessing that opened new doors in his career.
Prats explained that his background in acting helps him guide performers in his directing work, and he continues to value his on-camera experience while focusing on projects behind the scenes.
He expressed gratitude to Dyogi and ABS-CBN management for trusting him with directing responsibilities and said he hopes his journey can inspire other artists to embrace new roles in the industry.
Prats said he now sees directing as his primary role in entertainment and plans to continue honing his craft for future projects.
