A Fort Worth firefighter who suffered severe burns during a house fire in September 2025 has received workers’ compensation benefits following public scrutiny from a city council member.

Caleb Halvorson, a firefighter with the Fort Worth Fire Department, sustained critical injuries while responding to a residential blaze within the city limits.

Halvorson entered the burning structure as part of his assigned duties and suffered extensive burns during firefighting operations. Emergency medical personnel transported him from the scene for treatment, and doctors classified his injuries as severe, requiring ongoing care.

Halvorson filed a workers’ compensation claim for medical expenses and wage replacement under Texas lawThe council member urged city officials to resolve the matter promptly, drawing attention to the status of Halvorson’s benefits.

City staff, legal representatives, and the city’s risk management and human resources personnel reviewed the claim. Officials examined incident reports, departmental accounts, and medical records and coordinated with the city’s workers’ compensation insurance carrier. The review confirmed that Halvorson’s injuries occurred while performing standard emergency duties under fire department protocols.

The house fire that injured Halvorson remains under investigation to determine its origin and the conditions that contributed to the incident. No civilian fatalities occurred, although the blaze caused property damage to the residence.
