MANILA, Philippines — South Korean actress Koo Hye-sun has completed her master’s degree in engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), according to posts she shared on social media.
Koo posted photos of her graduation, including images of her wearing a cap and toga and the cover of her master’s thesis.
Koo, best known internationally for starring in the 2009 television series “Boys Over Flowers,” temporarily paused her studies in the late 2010s as her acting career expanded.
She returned to academia in 2020 after stepping back from the entertainment industry, enrolling in film and media studies at Sungkyunkwan University. She graduated from the program with top honors in 2024.
During her master’s program at KAIST, Koo developed an eco-friendly hair roller called “Kurool,” according to a report by The Chosun Daily. The invention received recognition and was cited for the 2025 Excellent Patent Award.
Koo has not announced whether she plans to pursue further studies or return to acting following her graduation.
