BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — The Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Office reported a significant rise in firework-related incidents during the recent New Year’s celebrations.

Between Dec. 28, 2025, and the early hours of Jan. 1, 2026, fire officials responded to 42 firework-related incidents in unincorporated Bexar County. Among these were eight structure fires, with estimated property losses totaling around $475,000.

During the same period, the Bexar County Public Safety Communications Center handled 2,062 emergency 911 calls and 3,441 non-emergency calls, resulting in 113 documented firework-related incidents.

A breakdown of the reported fires shows:

  • 42 total fires related to fireworks
  • 13 grass or brush fires
  • 8 structure fires
  • 9 trash bin fires
  • 3 vehicle fires

The fire marshal’s office noted a marked increase compared to last year’s 32 incidents, attributing the rise to persistent dry conditions and stronger winds over the holiday period.

Officials reminded residents to exercise caution with fireworks, particularly amid ongoing dry weather.
