Leander Independent School District trustees on Thursday approved a plan to close Faubion Elementary School beginning with the 2026–27 school year, citing facility needs and enrollment patterns.
The board voted on the proposal during a public meeting at the district’s administration building after reviewing data on enrollment, campus capacity, and growth projections.
Under the approved plan, Faubion Elementary will cease operations at the start of the 2026–27 academic year.
District administrators said they will develop a transition plan for affected students and staff. The plan will include new campus assignments for students currently enrolled at Faubion.
Leander ISD officials said families will receive information on rezoning decisions and transportation arrangements before the start of the 2026–27 school year.
The district said it will hold community meetings and share updates through official communication channels as the closure process moves forward.
Leander ISD officials said they will continue reviewing enrollment trends and facility use across the district as part of long-term planning.
