MANILA, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez on Monday said foreign nationals continue to attempt to revive underground Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (Pogo) hubs despite the nationwide ban on the industry, as authorities monitor and track these alleged illegal activities across the country.
Nartatez said PNP intelligence and field units observe a trend of foreign nationals trying to set up clandestine Pogo operations in various locations after the government ordered the shutdown of all licensed and unlicensed Pogo hubs.
He said police units strictly enforce the national government’s directive banning Pogo activities and conduct raids on establishments that allegedly continue to host illegal offshore gaming operations.
Nartatez said the PNP intensifies its campaign against cyber-enabled crimes and other offenses often associated with illegal Pogo operations, including fraud, human trafficking, and illegal detention.
He said the PNP conducts regular inspections in business districts, residential enclaves, and special economic zones where previous Pogo operators maintained offices and dormitories.
