HOUSTON — Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has called for a criminal investigation into Texas Southern University following an audit that uncovered financial irregularities.
The audit, conducted by the Texas State Auditor’s Office since May 2025, revealed thousands of unauthorized invoices totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. It also identified significant financial and operational weaknesses within the university.
Patrick expressed concern over the potential misuse of state funds and stated that no additional taxpayer money should be allocated to the university until the issues are resolved. He plans to request the Texas Rangers conduct a further investigation.
