The Austin Independent School District (AISD) held a virtual meeting with parents to discuss a draft consolidation plan as the district confronts a $19.7 million budget shortfall.

The session aimed to address community concerns and gather feedback while the district works to stabilize its finances and avoid a potential state takeover by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

District leaders outlined the proposed plan, which includes the possible closure of 13 schools, explaining that the move is intended to ensure every student learns in a well-resourced and fully staffed environment.

Officials said the consolidation is part of a broader strategy to address financial challenges and sustain educational quality.

During the Q&A session, parents raised concerns about the plan’s impact on their children’s education and neighborhood communities. District officials assured participants that all feedback will be considered before finalizing any decisions.

AISD Superintendent [name if available] emphasized the urgency of adopting a financially viable plan to prevent state intervention. He noted that the district must act quickly to align staffing and resources with student needs.

The consolidation proposal would reallocate resources to optimize school operations and reduce inefficiencies while minimizing disruptions to students.

AISD plans to hold additional meetings to share updates and gather further input from the community. Officials reaffirmed the district’s commitment to transparency and collaboration throughout the process, stressing that community engagement is key to achieving sustainable solutions for students’ success.
