Houston city officials held a community meeting on Wednesday following the discovery of six bodies in the city’s bayous.

Council Member Letitia Plummer led the meeting at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church on North MacGregor, beginning at 10 a.m. The meeting aimed to address public concerns and outline safety measures.

Authorities recovered six bodies from various bayous across the city in recent weeks. Investigators identified one of the deceased as a University of Houston student. Four bodies remain unidentified.

Officials have not released the name of the sixth individual, pending family notification.

City officials stated that investigators have not found evidence of foul play or links between the deaths. Investigations remain ongoing.

Council Member Plummer organized the meeting to provide updates and hear from residents. Officials and attendees discussed possible responses, including increased police patrols and expanded community watch programs. Residents also asked questions and expressed concerns about safety in and around the bayous.

City officials emphasized the scale of Houston’s bayou system, which spans more than 2,500 miles. They acknowledged the difficulties these waterways pose for law enforcement and emergency response.

Officials said they would review safety procedures and consider new strategies for monitoring the area.

Officials asked the public to share any relevant information with law enforcement. They said community input remains a key part of the ongoing investigations.

City leaders said they will continue to provide updates and meet with residents as the investigations progress. They pledged to maintain communication and ensure a coordinated response.
