World pool champion Mika Immonen dies at 52

LONDON — Mika Immonen, a Finnish professional pool player and two-time world champion, died on September 28, 2025, at the age of 52 after a battle with cancer.

Matchroom Sport confirmed Immonen’s death on Saturday and issued a public statement offering condolences. Fellow professional pool players and cuesports organizations also shared tributes following the announcement.

Immonen won the 2001 World Pool Championship and the 2009 World 10-Ball Championship during a career that spanned decades. He was widely known by his nickname, “The Iceman,” and competed in international tournaments across Europe, Asia, and the United States.

He represented Finland in multiple Mosconi Cups and was inducted into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame in 2014.

Immonen’s family has not released details regarding funeral arrangements.
