DALLAS, Texas — A suspect involved in a recent shooting near a government building in Dallas deliberately targeted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and acted alone, officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed Tuesday.
The individual, identified as Joshua Jahn, reportedly planned the attack over an extended period, according to authorities. The shooting took place near a facility that houses several federal agencies, including ICE.
“Evidence collected confirms that Jahn acted alone and had no ties to organized groups,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office stated. Investigators cited digital communications, online postings, and physical documents recovered from Jahn’s residence as proof of a premeditated attack rooted in opposition to ICE operations.
Authorities discovered no indications that other individuals were involved or aware of the planned assault. The findings suggest that Jahn’s actions stemmed from personal grievances rather than ideological affiliation with extremist organizations.
As part of the investigation, federal agents conducted a search of Jahn’s home, uncovering documents and online materials reflecting his views and intentions. Officials said the materials provided insight into Jahn’s mindset and planning process.
In response to the incident, security has been increased at ICE offices and surrounding government facilities in Dallas. Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat tied to the event.
“This was an isolated act. However, we are implementing additional precautions to ensure the continued safety of federal personnel,” a spokesperson said.
Jahn remains in custody and is facing charges in connection with the shooting. Legal proceedings are underway, and authorities continue to examine his background for any further details regarding potential warning signs or previous behaviors of concern.
Although ICE operations continue under heightened security, the agency has made counseling services available to employees impacted by the incident. Staff have also been briefed on additional safety protocols.
Officials acknowledged that the incident reflects broader tensions surrounding immigration enforcement and the risks faced by government personnel in sensitive areas of public service. Law enforcement agencies are urging continued vigilance and encouraging the public to report any suspicious activity.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities plan to release further information as it becomes available.
