The collaboration connects students with local property owners who offer accessible and affordable housing. A survey showed that 55% of ACC students face housing insecurity.
Housing Connector’s model links students to landlords with vacant units, helping both parties by providing housing to students and filling empty apartments for landlords.
The City of Austin’s Homeless Strategy Office supports the partnership by providing resources and expertise. This effort aligns with city initiatives to meet housing needs amid a growing population.
ACC Chancellor Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart emphasized that stable housing is vital for student academic success and expressed hope that the partnership will ease housing pressures.
Property owners in the program will be screened to ensure housing affordability and safety. ACC and Housing Connector will monitor the program, gather feedback, and make adjustments as needed.
ACC plans to explore additional strategies and partnerships to further support students facing housing insecurity.
