SAN ANTONIO, TX — San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) has implemented enhanced security measures at Brackenridge High School following an incident involving a toy gun earlier this week.

School administrators received reports of a possible firearm on campus, prompting an immediate response from school security and local law enforcement. Authorities later confirmed the item was a toy gun and posed no real threat. Despite this, the situation caused alarm among students, staff, and parents.

In response, SAISD has increased security patrols, strengthened monitoring at school entry points, and announced additional training for staff and students on how to handle potential safety threats. The district emphasized that student and staff safety remains its top priority.

“We are taking all necessary steps to ensure our schools remain safe,” SAISD officials said in a statement. “We encourage families to speak with their children about the importance of reporting any suspicious items or behavior.”

The district is also exploring the implementation of an anonymous reporting system to encourage students to share safety concerns without fear of retaliation. Informational sessions for parents and guardians are being scheduled to explain the new protocols and provide guidance on supporting school safety efforts.

Local police praised the quick response by school staff and the district’s coordination with law enforcement.

As the school year continues, SAISD plans to evaluate and adjust its security strategies to address emerging concerns. The district reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a secure environment for learning across all campuses.
