MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed the Judiciary Fiscal Autonomy Act into law on Aug. 14, granting the judicial branch greater control over its finances. The signing ceremony was held at Malacañang Palace and attended by key government officials.

The new law allows the judiciary to modify its budget allocations within the General Appropriations Act (GAA), effectively strengthening its financial independence. Under the measure, the judiciary’s budget cannot fall below the previous year’s allocation, ensuring stability in its funding.

The legislation is part of the administration’s broader initiative to improve the operational efficiency of the judicial system and reinforce the constitutional principle of separation of powers.

Speaker Martin Romualdez voiced support for the law, calling it a critical step in promoting judicial independence and institutional integrity.
