MANILA, Philippines — Seventy-three percent of Filipinos support the inclusion of age-appropriate and culturally sensitive sex education in schools, according to a Pulse Asia survey conducted in March 2025.

Child-rights advocates commissioned the survey to measure public opinion on the inclusion of lessons on sexuality, sexual health, and family planning in the school curriculum.

Pulse Asia conducted the poll nationwide and reported the highest level of support in Metro Manila, where 84 percent of respondents favored comprehensive sex education.

The release of the survey results comes amid legislative discussions on reproductive health services and education policies.

Lawmakers and education officials continue to review approaches for implementing sex education in schools in response to concerns about adolescent health.

Advocates plan to use the data to inform policy discussions and curriculum development. Policymakers have not yet announced any changes in official guidelines.

The Department of Education has not released a statement regarding the survey results.

Pulse Asia conducted the survey using standard sampling methods. The survey did not include specific details about respondents’ age groups or socio-economic backgrounds.

Officials have not confirmed whether they will consider the survey in future education policy planning.

The Commission on Population and Development has acknowledged rising interest in strengthening youth education programs but has not commented directly on the survey findings.

The Senate and House of Representatives continue to hold committee hearings related to youth development and reproductive health.
