FRISCO, Texas— Frisco Independent School District (ISD) has notified families that it received subpoenas requesting personal information of students and parents in connection with a murder investigation tied to a fatal stabbing at an April track meet.

The subpoenas are related to the case of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, a student-athlete who was fatally stabbed at Kuykendall Stadium. Karmelo S. Anthony has been charged with first-degree murder in the case.

Authorities have issued legal demands for a list of students who attended the event, including each student’s full name, date of birth, address, and their parents’ contact information.

In a notice sent to parents, Frisco ISD stated it is obligated to comply with the legal request but also emphasized its duty under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to inform families before releasing any information. Parents were advised of their right to challenge the subpoenas through legal action and were given until July 29 to do so.

The district’s communication acknowledged growing concerns among parents about student privacy and data sharing. In response, Frisco ISD encouraged families to seek legal counsel if they wish to contest the release of information and has pledged transparency as the legal process unfolds.

Frisco ISD continues to cooperate with law enforcement while attempting to safeguard student privacy. The district stated that it is committed to following all legal requirements and keeping families informed as developments occur.
