A large-scale mass casualty training exercise took place in San Antonio, Texas, with 700 volunteers participating in the event.

The Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC) organized the San Antonio Mass Casualty Exercise & Evaluation (SAMCEE) to assess the region’s preparedness and response capabilities for major emergencies.

The two-hour drill brought together multiple emergency response agencies, including hospitals, EMS teams, and first responders. Its primary goal was to test coordination, communication, and resource management during a simulated mass casualty incident.

Brooke Army Medical Center was among the key participants, focusing on patient triage and emergency management procedures. The exercise strengthened collaboration between healthcare providers and emergency responders, helping refine response strategies and operational protocols.

Volunteers played essential roles as Moulage Artists and Mock Patients, creating realistic scenarios for emergency personnel.

Moulage Artists simulated injuries with lifelike makeup, while Mock Patients acted out symptoms and reactions typical of large-scale emergencies. Their participation enhanced the authenticity of the training environment.

Responders conducted triage, coordinated emergency transport, and managed hospital surge capacity during the simulation. The exercise allowed agencies to identify gaps in procedures and make improvements to ensure better preparedness.
