HOUSTON, Texas– A judge has set a $500,000 bond for Omar Marzouk, 38, who has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Jimmy Arevalo outside a business in Houston.

Houston Police Department officers arrested Marzouk on Thursday. According to police, the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. outside a convenience store on Calumet Street, near the South Freeway and Brays Bayou.

Arevalo was working outside the building as a contractor for OMG Seafood, a restaurant located at the same site. Police said Marzouk approached Arevalo and the two exchanged words before Marzouk allegedly shot him. Surveillance footage captured the incident. Marzouk then left the scene in a gray Toyota Tundra.

Police identified Marzouk as the suspect during their investigation. After consulting the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, authorities filed a murder charge against him.

Nick, the manager of the convenience store, stated he was notified of the shooting by an employee. He said Arevalo had been hired to clean the kitchen vent at the restaurant.

Arevalo’s brother, Anthony Arevalo, told KPRC 2 that the two operated a contracting business and had been working together at the time of the shooting. He said he found Jimmy after hearing the incident and called for help.

Anthony Arevalo stated that his brother did not know the suspect. He speculated that noise from the pressure washer may have led to the confrontation. The Houston Police Department has not confirmed a motive and has not stated whether the incident was random or targeted.

The investigation is ongoing. Marzouk remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
