On Friday, August 30, 2025, San Antonio Police Department officers fatally shot Jaime Gonzalez, a 41-year-old man, after he reportedly pointed a shotgun at them.

The incident occurred outside Gonzalez’s residence on the east side of San Antonio. The police responded to the 800 block of North Cherry Street following reports of an altercation between drivers. Police Chief William McManus stated that officers were dispatched to the location after receiving information about the conflict. Upon arrival, the officers encountered Gonzalez, who allegedly aimed a shotgun in their direction. In response, the officers discharged their weapons, resulting in Gonzalez being struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers sustained injuries during the incident. The San Antonio Police Department confirmed that the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative duty while an investigation is underway. This protocol aligns with the standard procedure following officer-involved shootings, ensuring a thorough review of the circumstances.

The investigation into the shooting continues as authorities seek to gather more details regarding the events that led to the use of lethal force. Police officials have not disclosed the number of officers who discharged their weapons during the confrontation.

The incident has drawn attention to the protocols and decision-making processes involved in police responses to potentially dangerous situations. The use of administrative leave for the involved officers allows the department to assess the situation without interruption to regular duties.

In situations involving officer-involved shootings, law enforcement agencies often follow specific protocols to ensure transparency and accountability. The administrative duty status provides time for a detailed investigation, which may include reviewing body camera footage, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing the sequence of events.

The community and the police department await the findings of the investigation to understand the context and actions surrounding the fatal encounter. The San Antonio Police Department assures the public that a thorough and impartial review will take place.
