MANILA, Philippines — A third impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte has been filed on Thursday, Dec 19, alleging Duterte’s misuse of millions of pesos in confidential funds.

The complaint also accuses her of attempting to cover up the expenditures when questioned about the fund’s usage.

The new charges were submitted by a group that included several Catholic priests, who joined the initiative to have the Vice President impeached. This case has brought together support and opposition from various sectors of the Philippine society.

The group that filed the complaint claims that Vice President Duterte committed a culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, and even plunder.

The accusations focus on the illegal disbursement of confidential funds that were allegedly used inappropriately. The complainants argue that these actions undermine the integrity of the Vice Presidency and the whole government structure.

The progressive groups and various representatives, including political allies of former Vice President Leni Robredo earlier filed the first two impeachment complaints.

They had already accused Duterte of similar violations, focusing on her handling of the funds and lack of transparency in disclosing the details of how they were spent.

The confidential funds in question are meant for sensitive and urgent government operations.

The misuse of such funds, if proven, can lead to severe consequences, including removal from office.

The complaints claim that these funds were diverted from their intended purpose, raising concerns about accountability and governance under Duterte’s administration.

Vice President Duterte has yet to make a public statement regarding the latest impeachment complaint. Her office previously denied any wrongdoing in the earlier cases, stating that the funds were used appropriately and in accordance with the law.

Duterte’s supporters argue that the complaints are politically motivated, aiming to tarnish her reputation and destabilize her position.
