Turkish authorities arrested the mayors of Adiyaman and Adana in early morning raids on Saturday, according to state-run Anadolu Agency.

The arrests of Abdurrahman Tutdere and Zeydan Karalar are part of a broader crackdown on opposition figures that has intensified since March, following the jailing of Istanbul’s mayor.

While the government cites national security concerns, specific charges have not been disclosed. The arrests have drawn international attention and heightened concerns about the state of democracy and political freedoms in Turkey.

Tensions remain high as the government continues its campaign against opposition leaders.
