Authorities in Washington, D.C., announced a press conference to provide updates on the shooting deaths of two Israeli embassy staff members outside the Capital Jewish Museum.

The incident occurred Wednesday night, resulting in the deaths of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, both employees of the Israeli Embassy.

According to the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, the couple was reportedly engaged to be married.

Law enforcement identified a suspect, Elias Rodriguez, who was apprehended shortly after the shooting. Witnesses reported that Rodriguez shouted pro-Palestinian phrases during his arrest.

While the motive has not been confirmed, preliminary reports suggest possible anti-Semitic motives. Israeli officials condemned the attack as an “anti-Semitic terrorism” act.

The U.S. government also expressed support for the victims’ families and solidarity with Israel.

Following the shooting, security in the area was increased, and the Capital Jewish Museum remains closed. Authorities continue to collect evidence and witness accounts.

The Israeli embassy issued a statement expressing condolences and called for an end to violence against diplomatic personnel.
