Crystal City Independent School District (CCISD) in South Texas has taken significant actions by laying off 40 employees and announcing the closure of its Pre-K3 program starting in 2025.

The decision was attributed to a combination of financial constraints, inaccurate enrollment projections, changes in funding formulas, and inflation.

The district pointed to financial difficulties as a primary cause, which have been exacerbated by errors in predicting student enrollment numbers.

Such inaccuracies can lead to budgeting shortfalls, affecting the district’s ability to fund various programs and retain staff.

Inflationary pressures have added another layer of complexity to the district’s financial situation.

Rising costs in various sectors, including transportation and supplies, have forced the district to reevaluate its financial commitments. With the cost of goods and services increasing, the district had to make difficult choices to maintain its financial health.
