DALLAS, Texas –The search for Dallas’ next city manager continues as the city council prepares to interview three candidates on Monday  after two were eliminated from consideration.

Interim City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert, Fort Worth Assistant City Manager William Johnson, and the City Manager of Grand Rapids, Mark Washington, were among the initial contenders.

The current interviews come after the withdrawal and elimination of two candidates from the initial list of semifinalists.

The reasons for the withdrawal and elimination have not been publicly disclosed, and the city council remains tight-lipped about the details.

Tolbert is currently serving as the interim city manager in Dallas. Her leadership during the interim period has been closely watched, and she is now a leading candidate for the permanent position.

Johnson, an assistant city manager in Fort Worth, is another contender. His experience in municipal management and his role in Fort Worth’s administration make him a strong candidate for the job.

Washington, hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan, brings a different perspective to the table. His experience in managing a city of similar size and his initiatives in community engagement and infrastructure development have been key points in his candidacy.

The selection process for a new city manager in Dallas has involved several stages, including resume reviews, initial interviews, and public scrutiny.

The city council has worked with a search firm to ensure that the process is thorough and transparent. However, some have raised concerns about the limited number of candidates and the handling of the elimination process.

The city council’s decision is expected to be announced soon after the interviews are completed.
