Former Manhattan prosecutor Karen Friedman Agnifilo will represent Luigi Mangione, accused in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Mangione, held without bail, faces serious charges, including second-degree murder.

A native of Pennsylvania, Mangione was apprehended in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He initially faced charges related to gun possession and forgery.

Mangione’s arrest came after a nationwide manhunt following the killing of Thompson outside a Midtown New York hotel.

Authorities detailed that Mangione was found in possession of a firearm, ammunition, fake identification documents, cash, and a handwritten manifesto. The contents of the manifesto have not been publicly disclosed.

Mangione graduated from an Ivy League university, contributing to the widespread media attention the case has garnered.

The New York Police Department, in collaboration with Pennsylvania law enforcement, led the investigation that resulted in Mangione’s capture.

Representing Mangione will be Karen Friedman Agnifilo, a former high-ranking deputy in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

Agnifilo has a reputation for handling complex legal cases, bringing additional intrigue to the proceedings. Her involvement has prompted speculation about the defense’s strategy moving forward.
