Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has announced a new initiative to curb reckless behavior on Washington Avenue, aiming to improve safety and quality of life.

Residents and business owners on Washington Avenue have voiced concerns about increasing incidents of reckless driving and disruptive behavior.

Over the past several months, reports of loud noise, public disturbances, and dangerous driving have surged.

The mayor acknowledged these issues and stressed the need for immediate action to ensure the well-being of the community.

The new initiative will see an increase in law enforcement presence along Washington Avenue.

Additional patrols will be deployed during peak hours, particularly on weekends when the area sees the most activity. Officers will focus on traffic violations, public intoxication, and other disruptive behaviors.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner pledged support for the mayor’s plan.

He confirmed that officers would be equipped with the necessary resources to enforce the law effectively.
