GREEN LAKE, Wis.– A man from Wisconsin, known for faking his death, is now facing legal consequences.

Ryan Borgwardt, a kayaker from Wisconsin, was recently charged with obstructing an officer.

Borgwardt, however, maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty during a court appearance on Wednesday.

In an attempt to escape unknown pressures, Borgwardt allegedly staged his own death. Authorities later discovered that he had left the country, which led to further scrutiny.

The case began when law enforcement received reports about Borgwardt’s presumed death.

According to the police, Borgwardt had orchestrated an elaborate plan misleading friends, family, and officials to believe he had perished. The motive behind this act remains unclear, but the authorities were determined to uncover the truth.
