Collision causes 12 train cars to derail, some into nearby canal

HOUSTON, Texas –Twelve train cars reportedly derailed after a collision in Houston, with some of the cars falling into a nearby canal.

Transportation officials have implemented temporary detours for motorists affected by the road closures.

Drivers are advised to follow posted instructions and avoid the area to allow emergency crews to conduct their work safely.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the derailment.

The derailment occurred in the early hours of the morning, causing disruptions to both road and rail traffic. 

Transportation officials have begun examining the tracks to identify any structural issues that might have contributed to the derailment. 

The train was part of a freight service that regularly operates through the area.

The specific cargo details have not been disclosed, but officials noted that standard safety protocols were in place during the journey. 

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been notified of the incident and may conduct a formal investigation depending on the initial findings.
