AUSTIN, TEXAS – The Austin Police Department has apprehended the suspect in the high-speed racing incident on Interstate 35 that resulted in a multi-vehicle crash that left six people injured.
Another suspect, however, remains at large.
According to the police, 20-year-old Andy Saldana Rocha and 19-year-old Jose Huerta were allegedly racing their vehicles at high speeds on the interstate when the crash took place in March 2024.
Authorities revealed that the collision involved a white Tesla and a blue Dodge, which were reportedly racing from North Interstate Highway 35 to 12th Street.
During the incident, Rocha’s vehicle allegedly collided with an uninvolved truck, which was stopped behind another stalled vehicle on the highway.
Huerta has since been arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including five counts of Racing on Highway Involving Bodily Injury and one count of Failure to Stop and Render Aid. He is currently being held in custody as the investigation continues.
The second suspect, Rocha, remains at large. The Austin Police Department has urged anyone with information about Rocha’s whereabouts to come forward.
