In Dallas, the local charity Seasons of Change launched Project Leroy Holmes just before Thanksgiving to combat food insecurity by distributing $20,000 worth of groceries to struggling North Texas families at multiple grocery stores including Albertsons, Fiesta Mart, Foodland, and Kroger.

Seasons of Change, founded in 2001, has been actively working to assist vulnerable families across various regions including North Texas, Houston, El Paso, Oklahoma City, and Omaha. The organization aims to empower families through programs focused on education, healthcare, housing, and food insecurity.

Founder Tavian Harris explained that hunger impacts not only physical health but also affects education, work, and family life. By covering grocery bills, the initiative sought to alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by these families. The charity paid $5,000 at each store, offering relief and spreading holiday cheer.

Studies indicate that one in eight North Texans experience hunger, and among them, one in five are children. This situation highlights the pressing issue of food insecurity in the state, where over five million residents struggle to access sufficient food. The Project Leroy Holmes event was a step towards addressing this challenge.

Seasons of Change holds a strong commitment to giving back to the community. The organization’s efforts go beyond feeding families; they seek to encourage hope and strengthen families through various support programs. By providing direct financial assistance to families, the charity aims to create a positive impact on the community.

The response from the families was one of gratitude and relief. Many expressed appreciation for the unexpected support, which eased their holiday preparations. For those who faced challenges in affording a Thanksgiving meal, this gesture meant they could celebrate the holiday without the stress of financial constraints.

Seasons of Change plans to continue its efforts in combating food insecurity through similar initiatives. The organization remains dedicated to addressing the needs of vulnerable families and ensuring that they have access to the resources necessary to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
