Michelin, the prestigious French tire company known for its influential restaurant ratings, recently made an error in its inaugural Texas guide. The mistake involved incorrectly awarding a Dallas restaurant with a Michelin Recommended rating. The error was attributed to a mix-up in the name of the restaurant during the announcement at the ceremony held in Houston.
Originally, the Michelin Guide named The Charles as a recipient of a Recommended rating. This restaurant, located in the Dallas Design District, is renowned for its blend of Italian and Texas-inspired dishes. However, Michelin later issued a correction, stating that the intended recipient was Mister Charles, a different restaurant situated on Knox Street. Both establishments belong to the same parent company, Duro Hospitality.
Mister Charles features a menu with French and Italian influences, offering dishes such as wagyu short rib wellington and lobster rolls. Duro Hospitality, the company managing both restaurants, was founded in 2020 and oversees several dining venues in Dallas, including El Carlos Elegante, which was also recognized as a Michelin Recommended restaurant. The company is known for its innovative approach to dining and its diverse culinary offerings.
In response to the error, Michelin acknowledged an internal mistake caused by their geolocation process. A spokesperson for the company apologized for the oversight and assured that steps would be taken to prevent similar issues in the future. The Michelin Guide’s website has since been updated to reflect the true recipient of the Recommended rating, Mister Charles.
The inaugural Michelin Guide for Texas was highly anticipated, marking a significant moment for the state’s culinary scene. It featured a total of 16 restaurants receiving the Recommended rating. Among these, Tatsu Dallas, an edomae sushi restaurant in Deep Ellum, was the only Dallas eatery to earn a Michelin star, highlighting its high-quality culinary offerings.
The error did not overshadow the excitement surrounding the Michelin Guide’s arrival in Texas. The guide’s introduction to the state was seen as a positive step towards recognizing and celebrating the diverse and evolving food culture in Texas. The guide aims to spotlight restaurants that showcase exceptional cuisine and dining experiences.
