11-year-old from North Texas claims victory at Augusta National’s Drive, Chip and Putt Finals

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — Stephen “SJ” Sanders, an 11-year-old from Grand Prairie, won the boys 10-11 division at the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals, held at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.

Sanders accumulated 29 points to claim the title, according to drivechipandputt.com. He has trained for years, practicing multiple times per week to prepare for the competition.

Sanders said he first set his sights on Augusta National at age seven, inspired by his parents’ encouragement. He aims to become a PGA Tour professional golfer and has a backup plan to pursue a career as a brain surgeon.
