Severe Tropical Storm Leon Approaches Luzon and Visayas

Typhoon Leon

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been issued for regions of Luzon and the Visayas as weather disturbance ”Leon,” also known by its international name ”Kong-rey,” has strengthened into a severe tropical storm. This development occurred on Monday, prompting local authorities to monitor the situation closely.

The storm is anticipated to further intensify into a typhoon by Tuesday. It is currently moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour. Meteorologists are keeping a close watch on its trajectory and strength, as the storm could bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to affected areas.

Residents in the regions under Wind Signal No. 1 are advised to prepare for adverse weather conditions. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has encouraged locals to stay informed through regular updates and advisories. Communities are being urged to secure loose objects and to prepare emergency supplies in the event of severe weather in the coming days.

Areas under signal number one may experience winds of 30 to 60 kilometers per hour along with occasional gusts. While immediate damage is not expected, rainfall may cause localized flooding and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous regions.

Local government units have been placed on alert and are coordinating disaster preparedness measures. Disaster response teams are on standby to assist communities if the situation worsens. PAGASA is expected to provide regular updates on the storm’s development and its potential impact.

As the storm continues its approach, public safety remains a priority. Authorities urge individuals to refrain from unnecessary travel and to stay home if possible. Emergency services are prepared to respond to any incidents related to the storm.
