Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have revealed that their 6-year-old son, Miles, has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. The couple opened up about their son’s health journey, sharing the news with their followers.

Teigen, 38, took to Instagram on July 31 to disclose that Miles was diagnosed after being hospitalized for a separate illness. “A couple weeks ago, our Miles was sick in the hospital with a terrible case of shigella, an intestinal infection caused by bacteria in food or water,” she wrote. She noted that many of Miles’ friends were also affected after attending the same camp.

During his treatment, doctors discovered irregularities in Miles’ blood tests, leading to further investigation. “The doctors knew something else was off,” Teigen explained. “After more testing, we learned he is in the ‘honeymoon period’ of a lifetime of [Type 1 diabetes].”

The family is now adjusting to their new reality, with Teigen sharing that they administered Miles’ first insulin shot. “A different, new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the fly,” she wrote.

Teigen’s post included a photo from a recent family trip where they supported Team USA at the Olympics. In one picture, some followers noticed Miles wearing a Type 1 diabetes monitor on his arm. Teigen expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, saying, “I was, and am, so blown away by the kindness of this community.”

The couple emphasized their commitment to supporting others going through similar experiences. Teigen added, “We promise to be there for you guys like you have been there for us already!”

John Legend, 45, echoed the sentiment, commenting with heart emojis on her post. The family’s news also drew support from friends and fans, including Nick Jonas, who also has Type 1 diabetes, and influencer Aimee Song, who praised their strength and resilience.

The couple, who also have daughters Luna, 8, and Esti, 18 months, as well as son Wren, 13 months, are navigating this new chapter with the love and support of their community.
