Lea Salonga becomes first Filipino to receive Hollywood Walk of Fame star

A Tony Award-winning actress and singer has been named to the 2026 Hollywood Walk of Fame class, marking a first for Filipinas. Lea Salonga will receive a star alongside other prominent entertainers such as Miley Cyrus and Timothée Chalamet.

Salonga, recognized for her roles in “Miss Saigon” and “Les Misérables,” was nominated by the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) and will be honored in one of five categories including motion pictures, television, live theater/live performance, recording, and sports entertainment.

She is the fourth person with Filipino heritage to receive a star on the Walk of Fame, joining comedian Rob Schneider, pop star Bruno Mars, and Apl.de.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas.

Salonga shared her excitement and gratitude on social media, reposting news of the honor and acknowledging MIFF’s nomination.

The Manila International Film Festival also commemorated the news by sharing a video of the announcement by radio and TV personality Richard Blade.

The video highlighted Salonga’s influence and legendary voice, noting her impact on theater and her role in elevating global Filipino representation.
