Two individuals, businessman Atong Ang and actress Gretchen Barretto, may be included as suspects in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of cockfight enthusiasts, or sabungeros, according to Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.
Remulla announced on Thursday, July 3, that the two were named by a key witness in the case currently being handled by the Department of Justice (DOJ). He said the witness testimony prompted authorities to consider Ang and Barretto as possible suspects.
The DOJ is investigating the disappearance of multiple individuals linked to the cockfighting industry. The cases remain open, with law enforcement continuing to review statements and physical evidence. Remulla confirmed that the investigation is active and that all leads are being evaluated.
As of Thursday, neither Ang nor Barretto had issued a public statement in response to their possible inclusion in the case.
The DOJ has not confirmed any charges against the individuals named and stated that it is continuing to review all available information to determine any further action.
