Philippine Consulate joins Knights of Rizal for annual Texas tribute

HOUSTON, Texas — The Philippine Consulate General, represented by Vice Consul Tanya Gaurano, joined the Knights of Rizal Texas Area Foundation (KORTAF) on Saturday, June 29, to commemorate its Annual Tribute to Dr. Jose Rizal.

The event took place at the Philippine Community Center, Inc. (PCCI), bringing together members of the Filipino-American community to honor the legacy of the Philippines’ national hero.

The tribute recognized members of the Knights of Rizal (KOR) and Kababaihang Rizalista, Inc. (KRI) for their contributions to medicine, entrepreneurship, arts, and engineering. Organizers stated that the honorees exemplified the ideals of Rizal through their service and leadership in their respective fields.

In her speech, Vice Consul Gaurano emphasized the continued relevance of Rizal’s work amid ongoing social challenges. She urged attendees to draw inspiration from Rizal’s life and teachings, and to engage younger generations in preserving his legacy.

During the event, Vice Consul Gaurano also administered the oath of office to KORTAF’s newly elected officers.

The annual tribute aims to strengthen community involvement and promote awareness of Dr. Rizal’s values among Filipino-Americans in Texas.
